Consultation for Attorneys
Dr. Mashigian consults with attorneys on cases that involve psychiatric evidence. He works with both sides. In criminal cases that means the prosecution or the defense. In civil cases it means the plaintiff or the defendant. In a consulting role he does not testify. He reviews the material and reports what he finds to the attorney.
Record review
Dr. Mashigian reviews the medical, psychiatric, and other records in a case. He explains what the records show, what they do not show, and what is missing. He accepts record review in cases from any state.
Case consultation
Dr. Mashigian discusses the psychiatric questions in a case with the attorney. That can include what a psychiatric evaluation can and cannot answer, which records would help, and what to expect from an opposing expert. Consultation is by phone or video.
Work product review
Dr. Mashigian reviews another expert's report and qualifications. He checks the expert's licensure, board certification, and training. He reviews how the expert chose, used, and interpreted diagnostic tools. He compares the report with professional standards, including the guidelines of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, and with current psychiatric literature.
Testimony review
Dr. Mashigian gives an impartial assessment of an expert's testimony. He identifies its strengths and its weak points so that counsel can prepare for direct and cross examination.
